Program guidelines

The Young and Emerging Artist Professional Development Program aims to support young artists and arts workers to undertake professional and skills development activities.

Applicants must be 25 years of age or under at the time of application or in the first five years of their professional creative practice.

Professional practice in the cultural and creative industries could include:

  • Engaging regularly in creative work: this could be freelance, paid employment, or volunteering.
  • Showcasing work: if you are an artist, actively presenting your art through exhibitions, performances, or other public opportunities (paid or unpaid).
  • Building a network: having connections with other creatives, demonstrated through letters of support.

Eligibility requirements

As the applicant, you must be:

  • an individual artist or arts worker either aged 25 years and under or in the first five years of professional practice as at the closing date for applications
  • an individual artist who has lived in Tasmania for six of the last 12 months.

You must also meet our general eligibility requirements.

Applications will not be accepted from:

  • groups or organisations
  • artists or arts workers intending to undertake professional development focused on screen or interactive gaming.

Eligible costs

You can apply for funds towards professional and skills development activities including:

  • Tasmanian, national or international residencies
  • mentorships
  • masterclasses
  • attachments with arts organisations on existing projects or productions.

Applications can focus on one activity or include a mix of eligible activities.

Grant funds can be used towards:

  • residency costs
  • masterclass fees
  • mentoring fees
  • travel and accommodation costs including per diems and disability access costs (including travel costs for carers)
  • materials (including art form materials)
  • costs associated with child or dependent care.

You cannot use grant funds to purchase equipment.

Overdue acquittals

If you have received support from Arts Tasmania in the past and the acquittal for this support is now overdue, you are not eligible to receive more support until all overdue
acquittal reports are submitted and approved.

Arts Tasmania will contact you if you have any overdue acquittals.
